Video mapping (or projection mapping) is a technique that projects animated visual content onto three-dimensional surfaces — building facades, objects, sets or scenographies. The projection follows the contours of the surface to create spectacular visual illusions: a wall that appears to deform, a product that comes to life, an architecture that transforms before the audience's eyes. Video mapping is used for product launches, fashion shows, inaugurations, flagship stores, exhibitions and galas. Video mapping is a visual projection onto a surface — the audience watches the show but does not directly interact with it. An interactive installation, on the other hand, responds to the audience's movements, gestures or presence through motion sensors, tracking cameras, touch surfaces or other devices. The audience becomes part of the experience. Both can be combined: interactive video mapping reacts in real time to visitors' actions using technologies such as TouchDesigner or Unreal Engine. This is what we favor at The Sun Project — setups that create genuine interaction between a brand and its audience, generating far greater engagement than a simple projection.
